How Can You Support Students Applying Abroad, As a Parents?

Studying abroad is one of the major decision a student can take and parental support is of utmost importance at this phase. A parental guidance and support can help the application process go more smoothly and with fewer stress. Here are few ways how you can help your child throughout the process;

Offer Emotional Assistance
Students may find it intimidating to apply to universities overseas. Throughout the process, parents should support their kids, listen to their worries, and help them maintain their confidence. Family members’ encouraging words can significantly increase a student’s drive and concentration.

Assistance in Research and Making Decisions
Parents can help their young one’s research about various nations, colleges, and courses. Students will be able to make well-informed judgments that align with their academic interests and long-term objectives by discussing options with the elders.

Help with Budgeting
Tuition, living expenses, visa fees, and travel charges are few of the costs that are associated with studying overseas. Parents can assist by making early financial plans, looking into scholarship opportunities, and making sure the required financial paperwork is ready for the visa application process as this is something only parents can help with.

Encourage English Proficiency Test Preparation
English proficiency tests like the TOEFL, PTE, or IELTS are required by the majority of international universities. Parents can encourage their children to begin preparing early and, if needed, assist them in locating trustworthy resources or coaching facilities.

Help with Documentation
Many documents are needed to study abroad. Some of them are academic transcripts, passports, financial accounts, recommendation letters, and a Statement of Purpose (SOP). In addition to helping children maintain organization, parents may make sure that all paperwork is ready and turned in on time.

Prepare Student For Independence
In most of the cases in Nepal, parents handle everyday stuffs for their child which won’t be the case when they study abroad. Students who live overseas will have to handle their everyday lives on their own. To assist kids, feel more confident when they relocate to a new country, parents have to teach them fundamental life skills like cooking, time management, budgeting, and decision making.

With the right balance of emotional encouragement, financial planning, and practical guidance, parents can play a significant role in helping their children achieve their dream of studying abroad.
