International students studying in Europe can avail of many scholarships. They are as under:
Erasmus Mundus Joint Masters & Doctorates (EU-funded)
Erasmus Mundus Joint Masters are prestigious international masters, jointly designed and delivered by a group of higher education institutions. They involve at least 3 institutions from at least 3 different countries, and multiple associated partners from the academic and non-academic world. Typically, they include periods of study, research, traineeship, thesis preparation and defense.
Eiffel Excellence Scholarship Programme (France)
The Eiffel Excellence Scholarship Program was established by the French Ministry for Europe and Foreign Affairs to enable French higher education institutions to attract top foreign students to enroll in their masters and PhD programs. It gives opportunity to the future foreign decision-makers of the private and public sectors, in priority areas of study, and encourages applicants from foreign countries up to 29 years old at master’s level, and applicants up to 35 years old at PhD level.

Heinrich Böll Foundation Scholarships (Germany)
The Heinrich Böll Foundation grants scholarships to approximately 1500 undergraduates, graduates, and doctoral students of all subjects and nationalities per year, who are pursuing their degree at universities, universities of applied sciences (‘Fachhochschulen’), or universities of the arts (‘Kunst-/Musikhochschulen’).
Rhodes Scholarships (UK, University of Oxford)
The Rhodes Scholarship is a highly prestigious, fully funded postgraduate scholarship that enables outstanding international students to pursue their studies at the University of Oxford. It covers all university and college fees, provides an annual living stipend of over £21,450, and includes travel expenses to and from the UK. Founded in 1902, the scholarship supports two to three years of study and is awarded to exceptional young individuals who demonstrate academic excellence, strong character, leadership potential, and a commitment to service.
Italian Government Bursaries for Foreign Students (Italy)
The Italian Ministry of Foreign Affairs and International Cooperation (MAECI) awards yearly scholarships to international students and Italian citizens residing abroad (IRE) to pursue studies at public or officially recognized institutions in Italy. These scholarships fund Master’s programs, AFAM (Arts, Music, and Dance) courses, PhD programs, research initiatives, and Italian language studies. Recipients typically receive a monthly stipend of €900 along with exemptions from tuition fees.
Stipendium Hungaricum (Hungary)
The Hungarian Government launched the Stipendium Hungaricum scholarship programme to support the internationalization of Hungary’s higher education system and attract talented students from across the globe. The initiative aims to provide high-quality education in the heart of Europe while fostering lasting personal and professional connections between scholars and Hungary.
ENS International Selection Scholarships (France)
The École Normale Supérieure (ENS) International Selection Scholarship in France provides outstanding international students, including those from Nepal, with a fully funded opportunity to pursue a Master’s degree or Diploma in Science or Arts & Humanities. The scholarship offers a monthly stipend of €1,000 for three years, complimentary on-campus accommodation, and exemption from tuition fees.
DAAD (German Academic Exchange Service) Scholarships (Germany)
German Academic Exchange Service (DAAD) scholarships offer fully funded study opportunities for international students, mainly at the Master’s (€934 per month) and PhD (€1,300 per month) levels in Germany. These highly regarded awards generally cover living expenses, health insurance, and travel costs. Applicants are typically required to hold a bachelor’s degree and demonstrate strong academic performance.
NL Scholarship (Netherlands)
The NL Scholarship (previously known as the Holland Scholarship) is designed for international students from outside the European Economic Area (EEA) who wish to pursue a bachelor’s or master’s degree in the Netherlands. The scholarship is funded by the Dutch Ministry of Education, Culture and Science in collaboration with several Dutch research universities and universities of applied sciences. Recipients are awarded €5,000 during the first year of their studies. However, it is important to note that this grant does not cover full tuition fees.
Chevening Scholarships (UK government)
Chevening Scholarships provide exceptional emerging leaders from around the world with the opportunity to undertake a one-year master’s degree in the United Kingdom. These scholarships are fully funded, allowing recipients to concentrate entirely on their academic and professional development. Swiss Government Excellence Scholarships (Switzerland)
Each year, the Swiss Confederation grants Government Excellence Scholarships to promote international exchange and strengthen research collaboration between Switzerland and more than 180 countries worldwide. Candidates are chosen by the Federal Commission for Scholarships for Foreign Students (FCS/ESKAS), the official body responsible for awarding these scholarships.
